Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD, & ADHD

Autism is a developmental condition with a spectrum of symptoms and levels of disability. Those with Autism are often plagued with difficulties in social interactions and communication. They also often struggle with sensory disorders of many different types. The nerve system (the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves exiting the spine) are in control of sensory processing. With each chiropractic adjustment, the nerve system has a better potential to regulate our sensory perceptions, such as the things we hear, the things we touch, and the way we interact with those around us. The adjustment allows the body to better understand and adapt to the environment we are in. If you have been diagnosed with Autism or know anyone with Autism (or any sensory related disorders) talk to your chiropractor about a natural option for care, and a possible way to create a massive change not only for them and their development, but also for you and your family.

ADHD & ADD

ADD and ADHD are two similar conditions that are characterized by excessive difficulty with focus, concentration, and/or extreme distractability, and can sometimes include disruptive behavior and/or aggression. In the United States, nearly 6.4 million children between ages 4-17 have been diagnosed with ADHD. This is a 53% jump from 2001. This massive surge in numbers begs the question: Are there alternative options to drugs that can help with ADD and ADHD?

When we consider the role of the nerve system it is easy to understand how chiropractic can be of great benefit for this condition. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves are responsible for processing information that is coming into the body as well as deciding what behavioral output is necessary in a given situation. When subluxation is present - an area of the spine is misaligned and poor nerve signal is present - there can be a faulty neurological pattern when deciphering what information is coming in and determining what behaviors to choose as an outcome.

Each gentle chiropractic adjustment brings ease and relief to these nerves that have been under stress. Relief from hyperactivity, anxiety, distractability, is often noted with adjustments.

This testimonial posted below is from Owen's mom Rose and their experience of the diagnosis of: sensory processing disorder, ADHD, and anxiety.

"Before Owen started chiropractic care we were having a lot of behavioural and emotional issues on a daily basis. Looking for answers we sought out a pediatrician who wanted to diagnose him with sensory processing disorder, ADHD, and anxiety.

We wanted to take a more natural approach, so Owen started to take vitamins, fish oil, and other essential supplements. With all these changes nothing seemed to help Owen. Going the natural route and trying something unknown is always scary, the question and the "what could happens" come to mind.

We decided upon chiropractic care for Owen and it has been absolutely life-changing! Owen has become a completely different child from when we were struggling with the potential of all the different diagnoses. The best part of the journey with chiropractic care has been seeing how much happier and overall healthier he is now. Compared to the rest of the family, Owen has bypassed all the common sicknesses we get. He is not only happier, but he is significantly more emotionally balanced. He is no longer crying at the drop of a pin like he did in the past. Owen now understands his emotions a lot more.

For those of you thinking about chiropractic care, do not be scared. We often think of chiropractic with fear, especially involving our children and them being adjusted. Now that we have experienced chiropractic and having a trusting relationship, it's not scary at all. It has been a positive, life-changing experience for Owen and our family." ~Rose
